PHOTO DYNAMIC THERAPY (PDT)
Treatment Information
Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT) is used to treat Actinic Keratoses (AK's) which are scaly, dry growths on the skin. These lesions can become cancerous if not treated and are caused by overexposure to the sun.
A topical solution is applied to the skin that makes AK cells sensitive to light. This sits on the skin for a certain number of minutes, decided by the provider. Following this, A light is projected onto the skin, destroying the photo-damaged cells.
During the procedure, you will wear protective eye gear.
Recovery
After the session, you must avoid sun exposure and bright lights for 48 hours. Sunscreen should be worn daily to prevent further damage to the skin.

- Burning, up to 24 hours following treatment
- Redness, up to four weeks following treatment
- Crusting, up to four weeks following treatment
